Which airport should I use?
Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA)is the closest and most convenient airport. It is just a few minutes from downtown. Both Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) are also reasonable points of entry to Washington for the seminar, but they are significantly less convenient.

What kind of clothing should I bring?
When packing it is important to keep two things in mind: the dress code and the climate. For morning and afternoon dialogues in the Congress and at the Embassies, participants are required to follow a dress code. This means suits/sports jackets and ties for men, with nice dresses, suits or skirts with blouses for women. Also keep in mind that Washington’s climate, while generally mild, can go to extremes in the winter and summer. In addition, participants should bring an umbrella, especially in the summer when afternoon thundershowers are very common.

How can I keep/get in touch with a participant in the seminar?
Our toll-free office number (1-800-368-5688) can be used to relay messages to the participants during office hours (9:00-5:00). After hours you may leave a voice-mail message to be delivered the next day. An emergency contact number will also be provided on the voicemail system during non-business hours.

What type of supervision is provided for the students?
All seminars are conducted by the Director, Administrators, and full-time staff of experienced college graduates and underclassmen. This staff has a full and thorough knowledge of the program, its operation, and the subject matters under review. The counseling staff will reside with and be with the students throughout the week. Thus, students will be chaperoned from their moment of registration until departure.

Will I meet with my own Senator or Representative?
The Washington Workshops is happy to accommodate any individual appointments that you may arrange on Capitol Hill while you are in our seminar, but we will not make such arrangements on your behalf. We will have a full schedule of meetings with leading policy and decision makers ready for you when you arrive, and we can make adjustments on an individual basis. Junior high / middle school teachers should make group arrangements with Congressional offices in advance of the seminar.

Will I need to bring linens and/or towels?
No, the Washington Workshops will provide bed linens and towels upon your arrival. If you generally require more than one blanket, or you would like additional towels, you are of course welcome to bring them with you. It is very rare that you would need these extra items, however. Lastly, we do suggest footwear for the showers and hallways while in residence at our campus locations.

Can I arrange college visits while I am in town? (high school only)
The Washington Workshops strongly encourages all participants to visit at least one of the many outstanding colleges and universities in the Washington area, and it is customary for us to visit one as part of the seminar schedule. Georgetown, George Washington, American, and Catholic Universities are all located in the District of Columbia and can be easily seen in conjunction with your seminar. We ask that if you do plan a visit to one or more of these fine institutions, you do so either before or after the seminar. All of the universities hold information sessions on Friday after the seminar and some on Saturday before the seminar begins.
