Since 1967, our signature program series based in Washington, DC and the Mid-Atlantic region offering a more comprehensive understanding of leadership, civic education, the federal government, U.S. politics, American history, and global affairs.

The Forges of Freedom Seminar

A regional exploration of America’s native, colonial, revolutionary and civil war history.   The Forges of Freedom is a rolling adventure through several of the Mid-Atlantic states designed for Elementary School age students and their families to enjoy a hands-on experience with history while learning together!

Through the years, Washington Workshops Junior High Middle School Seminar to Washington, DC has justifiably earned the reputation of being “…the best of travel/study programs to our Nation’s Capital for America’s junior citizens.”

Presidential Leadership Seminar

A unique program developed in collaboration with Hiram College!  The Presidential Leadership Seminar, From the Founding to the Present: Students will become knowledgeable about the evolving powers of the presidency, focus on several of the most important presidents and the difficult decisions they faced, and come to appreciate the Washington power community in which presidents govern today.

The International Conflict Resolution Seminar (ICR) provides an excellent opportunity for motivated and forward thinking high school students to explore foreign relations and the field of conflict resolution in Washington, D.C.

Congressional Seminar

Democracy In Action! Created to inspire young people to get involved in the political and legislative process, we invite students to investigate the United States Congress, the Supreme Court, Embassies, and Executive agencies by meeting with Members of Congress, government officials, diplomats, lobbyists, and professors. Students will also visit the historical and iconic highlights of our nation’s capital.

Scholarship Opportunity – Congressional Essay Contest

2019 Essay Topic: “What do you think the authors of the Bill of Rights intended the Second Amendment to Mean? Do you think it is being interpreted correctly today?”

Participants must currently be in their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school during the time of the program. Exceptions considered by request.

Since 1967, the Workshops Foundation has provided experience-based educational travel programs to highly motivated, academically prepared, and inquisitive people from across the United States and around the world. The majority of our programs have brought students and educators to Washington, D.C. for a more comprehensive understanding of leadership, civic education, the federal government, U.S. politics, American history, and global affairs. Programs available include simulations of the U.S. Congress, internships, academically themed seminars, professional development, and person-to-person exchange.
